Planned Parenthood is on Tumblr!

girlsgetbusyzine:

plannedparenthood:

Planned Parenthood is excited to be launching our new Tumblr that’s all about sexual and reproductive health – bodies, birth control, relationship issues, “is it normal for this to do this?” type things. In the coming weeks and months we’ll be sharing what we know, answering questions, and just… tumblring.

We hope you like it! And we hope it helps.

“When I want to know what misogyny is, I don’t ask a man. When I want to know what racism is, I don’t ask a white person. When I want to know what homophobia is, I don’t ask a heterosexual. When I want to know what transphobia is, I don’t ask a cisgender person. When I want to know what ableism is, I don’t ask an able-bodied person. The contours and definitions of oppression are best articulated by the oppressed.” —Son of Baldwin

Check your privilege: learn from someone who knows first hand, because unless you’re part of the oppressed group, you can’t know or empathize.

You can’t empathize with oppressed groups because you’re not one of them?
Tumblr, wtf is with all of the hate and prejudice? Don’t preach about acceptance and then be discriminatory of others. There are plenty of people from non-oppressed groups who share empathy and even *gasp* try to help. Shrug them off? Fuck them? I’m sorry but no.

Chillll! It’s not saying you can’t empathise, it’s saying check your privilege and take the time to UNDERSTAND before you rush in not knowing the whole story or what it FEELS like in someone else’s skin. You’re not doing anyone any good by jumping in and assuming you understand their oppression <3
